I am a dedicated advocate for those charged with violation of a criminal law. Those who don’t believe that a person charged with a crime is entitled to zealous representation, don’t understand or comprehend the charter on which this country was founded. Pulitzer Prize winning author Jered Diamond, in his book Collapse, states that all civilizations that have survived for an extended period have developed a fair and equitable dispute resolution process. Our founding fathers have created the best dispute resolution framework within the history of man, but without dedicated defenders of those rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, they would evaporate in an instant. One only needs to look at recent history to see that humans continue to brutalize each other when basic rights disappear. It is important that those charged with a crime have legal representation at the earliest possible stage. It is important for society as a whole that persons charged with crimes be afforded due process, and that the State prove the person guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. As Harvard educator Alan Dershowitz said, our country is founded on the principle that it is better that a guilty person go free rather than an innocent person be imprisoned. I am firmly committed to this creed. I handle major felonies and misdemeanors in Northeast Georgia.
